Pitch George 2010 in Tom Heath's Capital Buzz Column

George Washington University student Stephen Pasinski, 19, won the undergraduate category in the "Business Plan Elevator Pitch Competition" at GWU's School of Business earlier this month. Pasinski's idea was Dog Drinks, flavored beverages for dogs that are also fortified with vitamins and minerals. The drinks would come in portable plastic bowls. And what's Pasinski doing with his $2,000 first prize? "First thing . . . buying some food cause my meal plan is out."

Pitch George 2010

Three minutes in an elevator. That’s the amount of time students competing in the third annual Pitch George business plan competition had to convince judges that they had a winning business idea. More than 50 aspiring entrepreneurs rose to that challenge on Nov. 13 and competed for $10,500 in seed money from the Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence of the GW School of Business. Student competitors rode an elevator and pitched their business ideas to a panel of judges, all within the space of three minutes. For the first time, the competition was open to high school students from the Washington, D.C.-metro area.

Global Entrepreneurship: The Latest Research on Business Creation

This special two-day workshop and seminar at the George Washington University School of Business was hosted by CFEE, GWU and ICSB from October 14-16, 2010. The event was headed by Dr. Paul Reynolds, Co-Principal for the Panel Study of Entrepreneurial Dynamics (PSED) I and II, and GWU's Howard Hoffman  Distinguished Research Scholar. The workshop and symposium was designed for scholars analyzing longitudinal data sets on business creation as well as those designing and implementing longitudinal studies of business creation.

GW Summit on Entrepreneurship

The GW Business Plan Competition and the George Washington Entrepreneurs Roundtable (GWERT) awards ceremony, two previously independent events, have teamed up with departments across the university, including CFEE, to produce a two-day symposium on April 15-16, 2010, designed to foster and highlight the creative, innovative, and pioneering efforts of entrepreneurs in the GW community. As a university sponsor of the event, CFEE re-emphasizes its committment to support activities that make significant contributions to the fields of Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurship Education and Entrepreneurial Leadership. CFEE Co-Directors Dr. Erik Winslow and Dr. George Solomon participated in the opening ceremony and GWSB CFEE Entrepreneur in Residence Kathy Korman Frey served as moderator for the GWSB Panel on Entrepreneurship. 1st Year Living & Learning Cohorts Program

The TURBO BOOST Entrepreneurship Workshops’ main goal is to provide education and support for GW First Year students who are early stage entrepreneurs as LLC members through a series of workshops. The workshops will assist students interested in developing a business proposition for their LLC and improve on their entrepreneurial skills. They will also help develop robust business models and attractive business plans for professional investors and/or budget holders within a larger organization. By the end of the workshops, each participant will be equipped with new knowledge and skills to help them with their entrepreneurial venture.

National Survey of Entrepreneurship Education (National Acclaim)

The National Survey of Entrepreneurship Education conducted by GW is one of the most comprehensive empirical analyses on entrepreneurship education in the United Stated to date. Its objective is to stimulate interest in the educational community to provide new and innovative entrepreneurial curriculum. Also, the survey’s objective is to encourage educational organizations to expand their current activities at both the secondary and post secondary levels. Finally the survey provides a data base so that individuals can use the results of the survey as a reference guide to regard entrepreneurship education programs and to develop new curriculum in small business and entrepreneurship.

The George Washington University DECA Initiative

The main objective of the GWU DECA initiative is to disseminate information on Entrepreneurship Education to DECA participants. DECA is a national association of marketing education students. It provides teachers and members with educational and leadership development activities to merge with the education classroom instructional program. DECA is not extracurricular; it is an integral part of the classroom instructional program. DECA chapters attract students who are interested in preparing for entrepreneurial, marketing or management careers.

3E-Learning Project

The 3E-Learning site is designed to develop a national and international community of educators, practitioners and researchers that collaborate through submitting entrepreneurial experiential ideas, creating tools that support propagating of new knowledge, skills, and experience in the entrepreneurship education. The 3E-Learning site is also designed to allow the community to monitor and establish a quality stamp for entrepreneurial experiential exercises that can be used by educators in the US and abroad.

A non profit organization that resides on The George Washington Mount Vernon Campus, Springboard produces programs that educate, showcase and support women entrepreneurs leading technology and lifesciences companies as they seek equity capital and grow their companies. Springboard supports CFEE's Women's Entrepreneurial Leadership initiative and other entrepreneurial programs via alliances, partnerships and direct programming. Our Venture Forum series, web-based Learning Center and regional Workshops and Seminars, service a wide audience of women leading emerging growth businesses.
